SCRIPTURE
"The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, "There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah. The king should not say that," Jehoshaphat replied. (1 Kings 22:8)
OBSERVATION
King Ahab of Israel entered a grim future because he did not have the courage to interrogate truth in his life. Ahab surrounded himself with people that only told him what he wanted to hear, and marginalized everyone who had the courage enough to speak the truth. This is a very dangerous habit to develop that can cost us and others life it self. We see churches and church leader's do this where they surround themselves with people who look like them, act like them and comply to them. Like King Ahab of Israel we can imprison the truth and live a lie. Ahab even tried to cheat death, and control his life with a wardrobe change, but to no avail truth is truth. You and I need truth in our lives.
APPLICATION
I guess this is why the scripture proclaims that the "Truth shall set me free". I wonder how many of us, including myself, are afraid of the truth? Ahab hated the truth because it pointed out his selfish, unrighteous, and false lifestyle. Truth reveals sin. I use to hate it when I would get busted for something I did or failed to do. Without truth in our lives, we will not grow in the areas that need transformation. Without someone revealing truth to us, we will developed poor character and weak integrity. There is a switch that I must make from despising truth to loving it if I truly value growth. There is a dangerous set of words that I must never say that Jehoshaphat spoke to Ahab, which was "Never say you hate truth". Don't even think it, I must always allow truth to investigate my life. Jesus said "I am the way, the TRUTH and the life."
PRAYER
Dear Lord,
Thank you for loving me enough to reveal truth to me...with love and grace. Forgive me for where I have ignored Your truth in my life. I chose life today that I may live! Amen
