Wavering

SCRIPTURE
Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him." But the people said nothing. 1 Kings 18:21

OBSERVATION
This is an incredible epic showdown between the prophets of some false gods and the Prophet of THE one true God-the creator of the universe. The scene builds with anticipation as Elijah challenges the prophets of the false gods to a sort of competition. Whichever god could bring fire down from the sky onto the sacrifices was the true God. Before any of the action took place, Elijah posed this question to the people. "How long will you waver between two opinions?" That's an important question for us to consider. How long will we waver before we make a decision about who or what we will follow in life? Are we going to follow money? sex? pleasure? pride? popularity? power? comfort? OR are we going to finally realize that none of that ever really satisfies. None of that really saves us from anything. They are temporary fixes to permanent a problem: we are lost without God's rescue plan in Jesus.

APPLICATION
Everyday, I have that same choice to make. Who will I follow? If I choose to follow Jesus today, then it should be evident in the words I use...in the way I behave...in the way I treat others...in the way I give, celebrate, live, and love. I choose Jesus.

PRAYER
Lord, I thank you for giving me life. I thank you for surrounding me with your love and grace. I pray that You choose to use me as Your servant today. In Jesus name, Amen.
